Openers for Hand-Lifted Doors, and New Remotes
If you’ve always lifted your garage door by hand, we can add an opener. First we make sure the door is balanced: it should lift smoothly and stay put when you let go halfway up. A door that’s heavy or drops needs its springs adjusted or replaced before an opener goes on, because an opener is built to guide a balanced door, not to do the springs’ job. We work with LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie openers.
We also program new remotes, including ones you bought yourself. If you’ve just moved in, it’s worth clearing the opener’s memory so the last owner’s remotes stop working.
Adding an opener, step by step:
- We check that the door lifts smoothly and stays put halfway
- We adjust or replace the springs if it doesn’t
- We install the opener and its safety sensors
- We test that it reverses when something is in the door’s way
An opener plugs into an outlet on the garage ceiling. If yours doesn’t have one, tell us when you call.
What We Repair and Install
Openers aren’t all we do:
Broken Garage Door Springs
Broken or worn springs can make your garage door extremely heavy or prevent it from opening altogether. A loud bang, visible gap in the spring, or door that suddenly becomes difficult to lift can all point to a spring problem.
Garage Door Spring RepairGarage Door Opener Problems
If the opener runs but the door doesn’t move, the remote stops responding, or the door reverses unexpectedly, the opener or one of its connected components may need repair.
Garage Door Opener RepairBroken or Frayed Cables
Garage door cables work with the springs to safely lift and lower the door. A loose, frayed, or broken cable can cause the door to hang unevenly and should be repaired before the door is operated again.
Garage Door Cable RepairWorn Rollers & Damaged Tracks
Worn rollers, bent tracks, or loose hardware can cause the door to shake, grind, squeak, or move unevenly. Repairing these components can restore smoother and quieter operation.
Garage Door Track & Roller RepairGarage Doors Off Track
A door can come off its tracks because of damaged rollers, broken cables, impact, or another mechanical failure. An off-track door can be unstable, so it should be inspected before you try to move it.
Off-Track Garage Door RepairDamaged Garage Door Panel
Dents, cracks, or impact damage don’t always mean the entire garage door needs to be replaced. Depending on the damage, an individual panel may be repairable or replaceable.

Common Questions
Can you put an opener on a door I’ve always opened by hand?
Yes, once the door is balanced. If it isn’t, we fix the springs first, then install the opener and check that it reverses when something is in the door’s way.
Can you program a remote I bought myself?
Usually, yes, as long as it’s made for your opener. Have it ready when we come, or tell us the opener’s brand when you call (205) 907-8179.
What is the red cord hanging from my opener?
It’s the emergency release. Pulling it disconnects the door from the opener, so you can move the door by hand, for example when the power is out. Pull it with the door closed. Keep the handle no higher than about 6 feet: low enough to reach, and high enough that a roof rack can’t snag it as you back out, which can trip the release or swing the handle into your windshield. If a spring is broken and the door is open, don’t pull it; the door can come down.
