The pictures here depict common garage door problems experienced by homeowners. This scenario needs to be addressed in order to prevent further damage to your garage door and garage door operator. Garage doors are easily damaged by homeowners when they are not aware of the broken spring, whether torsion or extension. Many people feel that they need a new operator to fix the problem. However if you do not realize that you have a broken spring and continue to use your operator; you will damage that unit resulting in replacement. This is why it is always best to consult a professional before making a costly mistake in repairing your garage door.

Is My Garage Door Racked?
Prior to my career in the garage door business, I would have had the same look on my face that some of you might have now, if asked this question. Is my garage door racked? Well let’s break it down, what is a racked door. Racked is simply garage door lingo for a door that is hanging crooked in the track. Now if this is what is going on at your house, don’t panic!!! Also don’t try to move it yourself. As of this moment your door is inoperable. This is extremely unstable and could potentially fall out of the track completely.
A racked door can happen due to old springs. If the springs are old they can lose tension which will cause slack in your cables. This causes the weight of the door to not be lifted evenly, resulting in your door falling out of the track. It is fixable, but you should always contact a highly train professional. Don’t let this happen to you!

A common problem with garage doors messing up is because when they are installed they are not reinforced properly. The pictures below demonstrate a garage door that was not properly reinforced. The arm that connects the door to the motor rail will snatch that center stile away from the door causing the door to bow and lose its integrity.
This is a problem that can be easily fixed if the top panel is not badly damaged. First, the technician will take some punch angle and mount it to the top of the door to strengthen the integrity of the top panel. Then, he will disconnect the motor arm and place a reinforcement arm to the center stile. By adding these two things to a top panel it will strengthen it and make the operable again. It is a much less expensive fix than replacing the entire top section.
